At times, it feels incredibly lonely to be “apart from” when you are surrounded by so many different social scenes in an urban environment. But there is a certain amount of sacrificing of the Self I am incapable of doing required to participate in a scene “authentically.” I am oriented to examine the construction of a scene first, to understand it, and being a part of a scene is not so much about understanding it, as it is believing in it fully.
Casual participation means never fully measuring up, never experiencing the connection, the complete approval.
